No Man Is an Island

Writer: Jason E. FortJason E. Fort

Have you ever felt this way? I have - but not for long, like, EVER
Have you ever felt this way? I have - but not for long, like, EVER

No man is an island,

I've often heard it said.

I've even felt like it before

But then I just turn my head.

You see, the Lord blessed me

Through no work or act of my own

With a collection of family and friends

Who will never leave me to be alone.

But the old expression is true;

The Lord didn't put us here to run solo.

We were designed to depend on Him

And all the others, we are to keep on B.O.L.O. (Be On Lookout)

I look over to my right;

I turn my head over to the left.

I realize quite thankfully

I am not alone to bear the heft.

Sometimes this fallen world

Falls down on our shoulders.

Sometimes the great heaviness

Of Uncertainty is like boulders.

But if we take a step back

If we connect the dots throughout life

If we look at all of the history

Of human ails, and hardships, and strife,

There is a certain divine Presence

That has inevitably pulled us through.

For if this were not the truth

Would this poem have ever made it to you?

Ask yourself this question;

Could you ever have it figured out?

Every meaning behind all suffering;

Every reason so many people have doubt?

The selfishness is to be expected;

It's almost fun to say it's Adam's fault.

But believe in something bigger;

Unleash thoughts from your vault.

Did you have a mother? A brother?

A father to teach you what is right?

If your answer is still no -

Would you still be open to the Light?

The reason I ask, my friend;

My coworker; my fellow struggler.

I want to tell you with earnest,

You do not have to be the only juggler.

The answer's been right there

Through the Ages, for all of us to see.

Your Father figure or family figure,

That is bigger than both you and me.

God's Word tells us the story;

He really does have answers for us all.

He really does love us always,

Whether we're big, handsome, ugly - or small.

But the real treasure and bonus,

The real added gift the Lord ensured

Was a body of other people like us

All capable of loving the Lord.

So before you take on that next load,

Before you stack the plates on the bar-

Remember, if you're looking for answers,

You do not have to look very far.

Pick up the Holy Bible and read.

Invite some friends to read along.

Find some crazy Believer like me;

I will do my best to not steer you wrong.

But more important than that,

Ask the good Lord up above.

Ask Him for forgiveness and mercy,

And seek Christ for His love.

You do that, brothers and sisters

And stay the course throughout life.

Suddenly that island's a peninsula,

And the rest of the land can bear the strife.

My metaphor is almost over.

Read further so it strikes a cord.

The bottom line is this;

Come with me, and love the Lord.
